Pubic Lice Vs Head Lice

Pubic lice, often called crabs, are a different species from head lice, and using head lice treatments in these sensitive areas can cause harm. Head lice has become pesticide resistant whereas, pubic lice is not. Head lice can be treated and checked at home and pubic lice must be treated by a physician with a prescription designed explicitly for pubic lice. Pubic lice thrive in areas with coarse body hair like the pubic area, chest. lashes or armpits. Head Lice can only be found on the head and rarely, eyebrows. Contrary to popular belief, pubic lice is not classified as a sexually transmitted disease (STD) it is a bug infestation and head lice infestation are not correlated to improper hygiene or cleanliness.  

Takeaway: Unlike head lice, pubic lice require treatment with doctor-prescribed medication.
